Warranty and faulty parts

What to expect when you buy a part from us, and your rights afterwards.

If a part you bought from us is faulty, isn't as described or doesn't do what it should, we put it right. That's your legal right under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and it's separate from any manufacturer's warranty. This page explains both, and how to claim.

What you're entitled to

Every part we sell must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for its purpose. If it isn't, what happens depends on how long you've had it:

  • In the first 30 days you can reject the part and get a full refund. If you'd rather have a repair or a replacement, that's your choice.
  • After 30 days we repair or replace the part at our expense, within a reasonable time. If that doesn't fix it, or a repair or replacement isn't possible, you can have a refund or keep the part at a reduced price.
  • For the first six months, when you ask us to repair or replace a part, the fault is treated as having been there from the start unless we can show otherwise. A refund in this period is always in full.
  • After six months we may ask you to show that the fault was there when you received the part, and a refund may be reduced to reflect the use you've had from it.
  • You have up to five years in Scotland, or six years in the rest of the UK, to make a claim. That isn't a promise that every part lasts that long: what's reasonable depends on the part.

Your rights are with us, because we sold you the part. You don't have to deal with the manufacturer: come to us first.

The manufacturer's warranty

Most parts also come with a manufacturer's warranty. Where there is one, its length is shown on the listing, for example “3 year warranty”. It runs alongside your legal rights and never reduces them.

For most parts you bring or send the part to us and we deal with the claim for you. A few manufacturers handle warranty claims themselves and ask to hear from the owner directly. If that applies to your part, we'll tell you how it works and help you with it.

What isn't a fault

Your rights cover faults with the part itself. They don't cover:

  • damage after you received it, such as drops, liquid, bent pins or damage while fitting it
  • damage from a power surge or from another faulty component in your PC
  • normal wear from use
  • a part that works but doesn't suit your PC, unless we told you it would. If you've ordered the wrong part, you have 14 days to send it back.

If we find no fault, we'll explain what we tested and return the part to you.

How to claim

  1. 1. Tell us

Email support@pc-repair.services or call +44 73 8474 0784 with your reference (it looks like PRS-PART-7H3K9) and what's wrong. A photo or a short video often helps.

  2. 2. Get the part to us

Bring it to our workshop at 140 Parkhead Drive, Edinburgh, EH11 4RX, or post it there. If the part is faulty, we cover the reasonable cost of sending it back to us. Ask us before you post it and we'll suggest the best way to send it.

If it's a drive, back up anything you need first: a replacement comes empty.

  3. 3. We test it

We're a repair workshop, so we test the part ourselves and tell you what we found.

  4. 4. We put it right

A refund, a repair or a replacement, as set out above. Refunds are paid within 14 days of us agreeing that you're due one, to the account you paid from, and we don't charge anything for making them.

If we can't agree

Tell us and we'll look at it again: we aim to settle complaints within 14 working days. For independent advice on your rights, contact consumeradvice.scot if you live in Scotland, or Citizens Advice elsewhere in the UK.

Nothing on this page reduces your statutory rights.
