CPUGPURAM

Flat lines are good. A line that slowly sinks usually means that part is overheating and slowing itself down.

Save your work first. Fans will speed up and the PC will get warm, which is normal. Plug laptops in and keep this tab in front.

What Each Test Does

Pick one part or all three. Each one is scored every second and judged on whether it holds steady.

Processor

Runs heavy maths on every CPU thread at once. A score that sinks as the minutes pass is the classic sign of a CPU that is overheating and throttling itself.

Graphics card

Draws a demanding 3D shader at 720p, 1080p, 1440p or 4K, tuned to your card so it works hard. If the graphics driver crashes or resets, the test catches it and tells you.

Memory

Fills up to 2 GB of RAM with known patterns, then keeps rewriting and checking them. Any value that reads back wrong is counted as an error.

Frequently Asked Questions

What people ask about stress testing a PC in the browser.

Yes. The test only runs ordinary calculations at full speed, the same kind of load a game or video export puts on your PC. A healthy computer handles it easily; it will get warm and the fans will speed up. If a part is faulty, the worst that usually happens is the browser tab or the graphics driver restarts, which is exactly what the test is looking for. Save your work first and stop the test at any time.

One minute is a quick check that everything works. Five minutes is enough for most PCs to reach full temperature, so a cooling problem will show as a score that sinks. Use ten or twenty minutes if your PC crashes or slows down after a while in games.

The part was doing noticeably less work at the end of the test than at the start. That almost always means it got too hot and slowed itself down to protect itself. Dust-clogged fans and dried-out thermal paste are the usual causes, and a clean and re-paste normally fixes it.

It can catch obvious faults: the test writes known patterns to up to 2 GB of memory and checks they read back correctly. A browser cannot choose which physical chips it tests or use all of your memory, so a clean result is not a guarantee. For a full check, a boot-level memory test or a workshop diagnosis is the way to go.

Browsers are not allowed to read hardware sensors, for privacy and security reasons. To see CPU and graphics temperatures, drive health and battery wear, download our free PRS Health Monitor app for Windows.

No. The whole test runs on your computer and nothing is uploaded. If you want us to look at the result, use Copy report and paste it into your booking or a message to us.

PC Overheating, Crashing or Slowing Down?

Our Edinburgh workshop cleans, re-pastes and diagnoses PCs and laptops that fail under load, and tells you the price before any work starts.
